I too have encountered rot with LANAI. Like you I have sometimes noticed the rot to be out of phase with the norm. Strangely perhaps, on some occasions it did not do so when a high percentage of others did, and sometimes did when a low percentage of others did not. Too, I have observed LANAI growing healthy roots through the infected tissue of rotted tissue of its rhizome.

I continue to wonder if the atypical behavior of this iris harbors some secret relative to tall bearded irises and rot. This atypical behavior may well be a good reason to exclude it from SAGE project and probably is. Even with such behavior I doubt any strong correlation between appendage _expression_ and rot beyond those other plant health issues visit upon iris blooms.

Another interesting encounter with rot was observed when PURE AS GOLD was under attack here during bloom season. The rhizome produced a stalk that exited the rhizome ant about a 30 degree angle, extended for about 6 inches and then curved immediately to vertical. The stalk then grew to a height of about 18 inches. None of this is particularly strange or unexpected. But with the possible exception on producing no pollen, the blooms were perfect miniture reproductions in every respect of a typical PURE AS GOLD. They were just 50% smaller.

CORDOBA is a performer of excellent substance here and commands high respect.

PURE AS GOLD a reliable rebloomer here
