Bill, I believe that the purpose of soaking iris seeds is to remove a germination inhibiting enzyme in the outer shell.  That enzyme is to keep them from sprouting in their arid natural habitat until they have had enough rain to give them a chance to grow.  Isn’t nature wonderful to take care of things like that?  I call it God.

 

Of course, if I had known how it was going to rain here this winter, I could have skipped it.

You are to be admired. But I must tell you such neatness sure hurts the ego of lazy folk!

As a point in passin', seems it was Sharon McAllister that soaked seeds until they sank and then planted, but maybe not. Anyway, this seems like a good measure of having the proper moisture content in the seeds to promote germination and getting all of them to start with the same amount.

Much info lost here.... course I'd probably have to ask questions again anyway. My wife can never find anything. <laughin'>
