[SpaceAgeRobin] Thornbird seedlings and other thoughts

Evening all,

Now that I've had more time to see my Thornbird seedlings settle in, I do in fact find them to be decent growers.  A high percentage of the seedlings (80%) of a cross of Babbling Brook x Thornbird did in fact show horns to some degree.  Seedlings produced fine stalks but many of the darker seedlings showed those "fatal" haft marks.    See below.    There's one last from this group to bloom and  it's a pink one, should open tomorrow.  The borers ate every last bloom except one so I've got my fingers crossed.

My main complain about Thornbird was all the TB x Triple Whammy seedlings I have growing.  They are pitiful but I blame this completely on Triple Whammy.  It's a terrible Iris with weak foliage, super high stalks and minimal to no branching.

I'm on a mission to destroy all those spathe borers but my luck appears to be running thin because all pesticides sold here in Quebec are now kept under lock and key !!!!!  Consumers are required to produce a permit to be able to purchase these products.   "Blast at all" as the Owl says in Pooh :-)

Enough blabber for this evening,
Chris
