Char's post of the website was correct, but
duplicated. That link doesn't work unless half is copied, then pasted
into the address line. Just to make things easier, here is the correct
(half of Char's address posted) for ACCENT IRIS GARDEN:
http://toolsbydesign.com/vciris/ At least from my copy of this post,
the link works.
I have some of the Christopherson irises, but of
the luminatas, I have only one and acquired only last fall, so I can't
comment on performance yet. It is LET'S BE FRIENDS from (Spirit World
X Ominous Stranger), a 2002 introduction.
Another of the current ones (2001
intro) is SHINE ON THROUGH, also a seedling of SPIRIT WORLD from
its pollen on STEP BEYOND. I find it particularly interesting as it shows
a pronounced beard spine extension or very minimal horn, one of the
few irises that show SA traits not descended from Austin breeding. Shine
On Through shows its Spirit World ancestry quite strongly in form and pattern,
judging from the photograph Vince uses on the WebSite.
Since Spirit World is explicitly mentioned in the
interrelated threads below as one of the problem growers, I will be particularly
interested in the performance here of LET'S BE FRIENDS.
The other luminatas introduced are from different
breeding, others among them also including offspring of Innerst's OMINOUS
STRANGER.
The current year's (2005) introduction includes an
especially interesting amoena-luminata named INVITATION ONLY, from (Mind
Reader X Chiffon). I note the listed height is 28", a border-line BB
toTB height which is an asset here, but in many gardens is short enough to
cause some to pass it up.
From comments in other threads by people who know
Christopherson personally and are familiar with his work, he is described as
methodical and quite scientific in his work.
Judging from the well-developed SA's, Luminatas and
other very interesting patterns, my intuition is that this is a hybridizer of
whom one would do well to take note.
I bloomed his IN A HEARTBEAT, a "Joyce Terry"
patterned yellow with strongly developed flounces, here this past year.
The plant's growth and habit led me to order the sibling, HEARTBEAT AWAY, both
received from Argyle Acres, which continues to offer other new
Christopherson introductions and carry his recent work as well.
The Accent Iris Garden web site is a work in
progress that is showing steady, deliberate and thoughtful development and is a
delight to browse. The photography is excellent, the descriptions
informative and complete.
I have cross-posted this entry to the SpaceAgeRobin@yahoogroups.com as
I believe it will be of interest to that robin's members as well.
