Chris raised the question about a change mentioned
for Devonshire Cream's registered parentage.
Sometime back, Mike mentioned he thought George was
thinking of changing the registered parentage. This is probably what you
are remembering, Chris.
I have watched for such a change and none has
ever been published, so apparently George Sutton has decided to leave it alone
and let the registration stand as originally entered.
I find it fascinating that the behavior of the
variety is very strong in the north, weak in the south, and showing occasional
short horns for Bill Burleson, for me this past year also on some of the first
blooms (maybe I just looked closer last year), and for the Suttons once the
variety was growing in a neutral to slightly alkaline soil instead of the
somewhat acid land where it had previously resided.
This just goes to show that conditions of pH,
temperature, soils are all significant variables not only in SA trait
expression, but on the general strength of a variety as well.
