I tried growing All Blue potatoes in 55 gallon drum last year but think
I overcrowded them; plants were doing fine for a while but then all of a
sudden 75-80% of the plants wilted/mushed with only 1 or 2 surviving in
the barrel. Used chopped straw & compost & kept adding as the plants
grew. Got about 12-18 2-3" taters out of the 2 remaining plants.
May do it again this year but use less seeds/eyes per barrel.

I also grow my potatoes in small containers, but then we like to harvest
them as baby potatoes, so it works fine for me. I haven't had any luck
growing them in the ground -- bad drainage, I think, and we haven't
gotten
around to building a raised bed for the potatoes. Pots have been working
very well.
