How to grow them is easy - lots of shade and lots of water, that's it.
Where to get them in California I'm not sure; I'm from Canada and they are
in seed catalogs here - they are sold as the basic run of the mill fern for
shady spots. The fiddleheads are just 'baby' ferns. They self propagate
easily, the spore blows and more ferns appear where ever there is no direct
sun. If you can't find any I'd be happy to send you some spore this fall.
