I have been having problems with deer eating my seedling trees.
To deer, seedling trees are VEGGIES! So there.
I just bought a deer repellant that sprays on and supposedly has a
very bitter taste to the deer. I will try it on all my small trees, and
reapply it if I think that rain may have washed it off. (No, I will not
use it on MY veggies. I have the electric fence to protect them.)
While I was at the home center, I was told that Blood meal is
a good thing to put around the base of the seedlings for about
three feet. He said that the deer don't like the smell of blood
and therefor won't go near it.
What is your expertise on this? Does it work? Is it going to
stink up my yard? Is it a fertilizer that will help the seedlings?
I don't want to get really involved too much with this. If the
spray
doesn't work without a real conscientious effort on reapplying it,
I will look at the Blood meal fix if you all say that this is a viable
alternative. But if it takes more effort than that, well, I can live
without the trees.
Thank you very much.
Stan The cheap and lazy gardener.
