Dear Lori: In regards to your questions, I'm not sure if any supermarkets would carry the magazine, Countryside, but most bookstores would. I purchased mine at a chain called Books-a-Million. Anyplace that has an extensive magazine setion should have it. It's worth seeking out. As to the canning, thus far I have only done cold bath canning, which can only be done for high-acid foods such as fruits and tomatoes. Last summer was my first attempts and I didn't find it difficult at all, and had no "flops". I have now purchased a pressure canner which is what one needs to do most vegetables, and will keep you posted as to how "Lucy does Canning"...(we have a joke in my family whenever I try something new-which is often- that it reminds them of Lucy & Ethel's antics from the old "I Love Lucy" comedies. Rest & Be Thankful!
