I too was motivated by the Y2K to start gardening with Heirloom and
Open Pollinate vegetables. We also bought another freezer for all
these veggies and have a generator.
I was thinking of putting in a root cellar. Anyone have some good
ideas on that ? I love the book "Root Cellaring" by Mike and Nancy
Bubel. Recall grandpa's huge root cellar in potato country. Would
love to hear about others with root cellars. What way is it facing ?
How are they constructed ? What would you do different ?
With three teen children at home I figure all these veggies will go
to good use. Besides I'm having such fun as it's been a while since
we've had a large vegetable garden. Just planted trenches of
asparagus and a dozen artichokes. Growing tomatoes and peppers under
my skylight that are coming along nicely.
Sincerely,
~Carleen~
