Nesa, you can transplant lettuce or you can grow in
a large container with supplimental feeding (as the container drains so
does some of the nutrients). A variety of loose leas lettuces growing in a
hanging basket is just beautiful! But you can container grow most
things. This winter I did brocoli in five gallon plastic buckets as well
as radishes, peas, rapini, sorrel and cress. I was giving my beds a rest but did
not want to be without fresh homegrown veggies :). In the summer I do
cherry and pear toms in black plastic half barrels against the protected south
wall of the house ... they have a bit more of 'tang' than if grown inland
with heat and sun (we are foggy seaside).
