Re: Stan's hot tomato

Stan,
somewhere I missed the point of what you trying to do.

There are easier, cheaper and safer ways to warm the soil if that is your
purpose.

bring me up to speed on your goal and i'll make some suggestions

steve

Steve,
My idea is to plant tomato seeds directly into the ground about 8
weeks before the last average frost, rather than indoors, and hardening
them off, and then transplanting them to the garden. I never have any
luck doing it that way.
Please tell me about easier and cheaper ways to warm the soil. I
plan on putting out about 50 tomato plants.
Ian Gill has sent me some great information that basically tells me
that I will have to warm the soil and the air above it for best results.
I plan to make a wall of water out of 2 liter pop bottles and keep
them warm from below using old Christmas tree lights buried beneath them.
Please help with any and all suggestions. I may be beating a dead
horse here if there are other cheaper ways to do this.
     Thanks for your interest.

Stan. The cheap and lazy gardener.
