Re: hybrids in reference to?

Alda,

As an information systems professional for 23 years, most of it in the
transportation industy, I can assure you that you don't need to worry
about the transportation infrastucture collapsing on Dec 31, 1999
because of computer problems. This person is trying to capitalize on
"Millenium Hysteria" for their own gain.

The computer systems with serious problems are the ones that have to do
with financial information and with long term scheduling activities such
as manufacturing schedules. It's especially serious with government
systems, so things like social security and welfare payment (check)
delivery may be affected, which should be of concern to people who
depend on those resources.

If you want to worry about something you might try "Genetic
Engineering", perhaps, as a more suitable target for your worry. The
practice of inserting foreign genes into growing materials and then
raising those materials into reproductive adult organisms has, IMO, been
rushed to production rather too rapidly. There are today, growing on
this planet, cotton, soybean, canola, tomato and potato (and maybe
strawberry?) plants that are genetically unlike their ancestors. Some
of them even have the genes of bacteria in them.

But the trains will run and the planes will not suddenly drop out of the
sky at midnight on Dec 31, 1999.
