First of all, it's only the milenium change if you go by a particular
calendar.  The Chinese & Jewish calendars are all the way in the middle of
their current thousand years.  So, don't worry. 

 Second, most people are so helpless, I really don't think that they will
even consider growing their own food if something happened.   They will
just go march on Washington, and demand help.  Also, if you grew your own
food, somebody who didn't have any, would come in the night and steal all
of yours.  This goes on occasionally around here, even when we are in the
middle of having more than we need.
