Re: Newbie question

Hello Amy,
I'm a gardener in Portland OR. I had a little input as to watering for
you. Around here you can go every other day or so in 70-80 degree weather.
Much hotter than that you'll want to go every day and twice a day if the weather
stays in the 90s+ for any length of time. To test, stick your finger in the
soil around the plants, if its dry for the top 2-3 inches, it needs to be
watered. Also, if the soil just looks really dry, time to water. We've had a
mild summer so far and have had intermittant rain, so I've been able to relax a
bit with my watering. I recently installed an automatic watering system, but
have had to turn it off a few nights because we've had enough rain. The risk of
over watering is much less if your soil drains well also. Hope this helps.
Happy gardening
Jen
