Thanks for all the advice! I did check the soil like both you advised and
it was dry, so I watered. I guess maybe I do need to water every day here.
As of yesterday, some of my peas are producing little white flowers. I do
not know if this is good or bad!
Have any of you tried direct-seeding broccoli? I am intimidated by the
whole transplanting thing, and one of my books ("Growing Vegetables in the
Northwest," I think) describes a method for direct-seeding broccoli that
involves making a hole and putting potting soil in it (plus fertilizer
etc.). I thought I would give it a try as soon as my broccoli seeds arrive,
which should be any day now. I am also trying to clear more space so I can
start overwintered onions and shallots, and maybe lettuce if I'm not too
late.
Amy
