hi amy,
i just wanted to welcome you to the world of gardening. i saw that a
couple of other gals had responded to your watering question and i fully
concur with them. i live on the east side of seattle and have very sandy
soil in my raised bed (it was put there by the previous owners) and have
found that even with that, i don't have to water every day with my peas
and beans. i have amended the soil with compost for sure, but also have
used grass clippings from the lawn (chemical free) and put them around
the plants. this has not only kept the weeds down, but also kept the
soil moist. neat benefit from something so simple :).
happy gardening!

O Lord,
help me not to plant more
than I can care for.
