Our moles here in the northwest don't bother the plants. They only
eat bugs and worms, but; they sure do make a mess of everything with
there little dirt hills. Neither of my neighbors have any problems
with moles or mole hills. I finally figured out that they spread a
broad sprectrum insecticide on their lawns twice a year. I'm not
willing to do that to my worms. (or my drinking water for that
matter). I've tried traps (got a few) . Little buzzing machines that
the maker claims clears out moles for forty feet. They cost about
fifty bucks a pop and the moles liked them so much they tunnelled
right under them and pushed them out of the ground. I bought a organic
spray that is supposed to contain castor oil. I couldn't see much
difference. The thing that helped the most is a bottle of fox urine.
I got it at a organic gardening store but its mostly sold for fur
trappers. A few drops of fox urine in their tunnel and they abandoned
that tunnel and moved on. (be warned, if you use fox urine it's
really stinky)
So I guess I'll continue using my traps. I'll use the fox urine to
keep them moving and finally I'll have to put up with some mole hills.
I'm not going to poison my ground.
Hope that helps.
Steve Russell
