next year

Dear Judy:

I admire you for thinking ahead toward next year when most of us are still in
the throes of managing what we have growing now! Some vegetables that you might
plant now would be carrots, rutabagas, turnips and basil. In another month you
might put in radishes, broccoli, cauliflower and try for a fall crop of peas.
although you really have to work hard to keep them moist when you are trying to
germinate. I also live in western/central NY state and I find that the fall is
also an excellent time to plant garlic for next year.

If you have a lot of blank space that you don't want weeds growing in, consider
putting in a green cover crop such as buckwheat, alfalfa or winter wheat. It
will hold the weeds back an enrich your soil in the process.

Have fun!
Stacey
