I was wondering if any of you had the same problem and if you know of any
simple solutions, I think it's because of the tremendous heat and dryness.
I put in some brandywines this year and had several growing large but still
green. I've found them scattered around the yard halfway chewed up - I'm
guessing the squirrels are going to them for the juices in this drought. I
keep a couple of shallow containers filled with water for the birds and I
figured the squirrels might use them too, but evidently not.
