Question? what variety of Pole bean? I've had Johnny's Northeaster beans
produce more than 5 lbs to the foot until frost killed them. Both
Kentucky wonder and Romas are very prolific as well.
Bush beans: Again it makes a difference what variety, SOme varieties
were developed for machine harvesting. They usually have statements such
as "holds beans well above plants, uniform maturaty date, ships well"
Other varieties have been developed for the home gardener. They have a
tendency to need harvesting over a long period and are too tender for
shipping tho you may see them at roadside stands or farmer's markets.
I think they also have more flavor than the commercial varieties. One
yellow you might enjoy is Roc D'or (our fourth year) or Cherokee wax.
These new french fillet beans are excellent and have huge harvests. I am
growing Maxibel this year but you have to try the different varieties for
yourself since taste is personal. HTH
