Hi Mary:

Yes, it works real well for  me. 
I dry the shells in the micro-wave, and then crush them fine. I scatter
them amongst the flowers and veggies when I plant young plants. 
I  have never lost a plant to snails yet.
 But I do make sure that they are dried before I put them out.
