I'm anxious to hear the response to your query regarding how to pick lettuce.
I've been breaking off the outer leaves as I need them, and storing what I don't use right away in dampened paper towels in the vegetable drawer in my refrigerator. The 'stored' lettuce leaves keep pretty well for four or five days. My plan is to continue to use the outer leaves and ultimately pinch off the center section and then hopefully the plant will produce another head. I live in Seattle and first planted the lettuce in mid April. We are enjoying salads with the lettuce now and I will plant more shortly and see how they do through May and June. Don't have much experience but am hoping to have a continuous crop of 'salad'. |
