Maria,
When lettuce is stressed, the taste becomes quite bitter. Usually the stress
comes from either too much heat and/or not enough water. Once it becomes
bitter, there's not really a way of reversing the bitterness so it's better
to start over. If you've got a shadier spot, try growing lettuce there or
choose heat tolerant varieties like Black Seeded Simpson or any French
Crisp-type lettuce.
