Re: harvesting my veg.
Hi Romeo,
Sorry to read about your dry conditions, its a real bummer when the
weather conspires against you!! I am pleased you are not giving up as
there is a great deal you can do to garden sucessfully in a dry
climate.
The first thing you must do is to dig plenty of humus and compost
into the garden. This will help with water retention. You must mulch
with leaf mould, farmyard manure and lots more compost. If at all
possible you could lay down one of these capillary water systems
which will trickle feed your veg with suffient water to ensure
growth. If you cant do that its out wih the hose or watering can!! A
few years ago in Pudsey, we had a drought and a hose-pipe ban!! I was
out every evening with my watering can and my wife used to dump the
washing-up water round the beans!! We had a good harvest I remember.
Another thing you can do is to grow veg, herbs, flowers etc. in
containers. I have done this for some years now with good results. I
hope these ideas will help. I will catch you week after next, as I am
off to Austria in the morning!!
All the very best, Dave from Pudsey.
