my garden here in Nebraska
Well, the season is about over for my garden. I only have Tomatoes and hot
peppers left. I am a fairly new gardener and have enjoyed this list, though
mostly I lurk. My zucchini, both yellow straights and green were very good
this year. Didn't succumb to vine bores which I understand from other local
gardeners this year was a miracle. The Blue Lake Pole Beans didn't fair
well at all. Took up a bunch of space in my little garden and didn't get
anything in return. Very few blooms and even fewer actual beans. I had
planted enough for a good canning year (I have 3 boys), but nothing.
Tomatoes have been fine. Decided I really like those Romas. Use them for
spaghetti sauce and salsa. Very meaty. Cucumbers......always enough of
them it seems. This was a year of hot peppers for me. I ran out of room in
the actual garden so I planted one each of Salsa, jalepeno and red hot chili
in with a flower bed along the south side of my house. They have done
wonderfully!!! And they are still producing. Even with only 3 plants, I
will have enough hot peppers for a VERY LONG time. I have made lots of
salsa and froze the rest. The plants look great in with the flowers. Have
stayed green and full . I will do that again. I don't really have a lot of
interest in fall crops this year so when the tomatoes and peppers are done,
that will be it for me until next spring. I have enjoyed the list and have
learned some from it too. Thanks to you all and happy gardening!
