Re: my garden here in Nebraska

Morning Martha,

Runner or pole beans, as you call them, do like to bed down on plenty
of well rotted compost. Heres what I do and I get a tremendous crop
every year. When the last beans have been harvested, about now in
Yorkshire, I pull up all the poles and the old vines, leaving the
roots in the soil. These contain nitrogen which will be needed next
year. I do nowt more until Feb/March of the following year. Then I
will dig a trench about 2' wide and 3' deep where my beans are to be
grown. This trench will be filled with kitchen waste to a depth of
2', then topped of by my homemade compost. Wnen I plant my seeds in
April, I know that they will have plenty of what they like to grow
into!! I always grow a variety called "Scarlet Runners" and never
fail to get a hugh crop. Give it a go, lass.!!!

All the best, Dave in Pudsey.
