Elm Seedlings

Hi,

I am new to the list, so hello all.  I have a question about Elm
seedlings.  We have both American (Ulmus Americana) and Red (Ulmus
rubra) growing in the woods behind us.  I had some seedlings show up in
a container that I was not using so I let them grow up.  They appear to
be some sort of elm, but I am confused about the leaf.  The main leader
has opposite leaves but the lateral branches have alternate leaves. 
Any elm growers out there who can convince me that these are, or are
not, elms?
