My experience with Prunus virginiana 'Shubert' is that it is one of the most
viciously suckering woody plants I have ever seen. It is beautiful, though, with
its burgundy folige that opens bright green in the spring and darkens as it
matures, just the opposite of most other dark leaved woodies.
