Contorted lilac

I recently saw a contorted lilac at the Dominion Arboretum in
Ottawa, and was told it was "Charles the Tenth." It really resembled
a contorted hazel. I've looked in 20 books and catalogues but have
been unable to find this variety mentioned.  If anyone has more
information I'd appreciate hearing from you.
