Without looking at it, your description coupled

the warm rainy weather makes it sound a lot

blight.
Oooh. I will definitely check it out. Thanks

Wow, I'm impressed! From memory, huh?
They're supposed to be hardy to zone 4, but I'm
not sure where
you're located.
Pacific Northwest, zone 6b/7a.
'Elegans' isn't as vigorous as the species,
however, so this may be your problem. They
also don't like wet soils, so if drainage is a
problem...
That has got to be the problem. That
particularly bed has very heavy clay soil that
really never dries out. It's not wet, wet, but
never gets hot or dry, either. Maybe I'll try
moving it next year.
Thanks Chris and everyone who's responded.
