I had never considered growing it in a pot, but I'm sure it would do
well even in our zone 5 winters!
I had a flat of S. hydrangeoides 'Roseum' left in my yard and they
all came back beautifully, despite the lack of protection and root
exposure. We had some cold temperatures, but those 4" pots provided
enough insulation!
I'm thrilled to hear that yours bloomed so quickly. Maybe I won't have
to wait so long for my other ones to flower!
