This afternoon I visited this old house with
this giant wisteria virtually 'eating' the building. Was planted probably 50
years old, and has climbed to the roof, and getting tangled to the precious
wooden balcony; the owners are very afraid that the force of the plant can break
the balcony away, and demand some heavy pruning.
This massive plant has been left uncontrolled
for many, many years, but now the owners want to keep things at
bay.
When is the best time for the big cleanup?. How drastic the
pruning can be in an old plant like this?. The idea is to get rid of a lot of
wood, so the whole plant will lose a lot of weight, for the houses's security
and the owners tranquillity. The wife doesn't want much pruning to be done, as
she adores the climber (which is quite famous in the area) but the husband is
getting very concerned about the safety of his house, which BTW is a very
beautiful small palace of the 15th century.
Any wisteria experts out there? :-)
