I also have this book. I purchased it because of what seem to be honest
disease and height descriptions.
I have had only three David Austin Roses: Golden Celebration, Wenlock and
Graham Thomas. I got the first two befor finding Clair Martin's book. Both
Wenlock and Golden Celebration were noted for black spot. I planted Golden
Celebration fairly soon. How ever, befor I could plant Wenlock -- it was a
while -- it was covered with black spot. I threw it in the trash. After
buying the book I got Graham Thomas.
Both Graham Thomas and Golden Celebration are doing fine so far in hot humid
Georgia. This is their first year. I think that they were both planted the
in March.
My Graham Thomas doesn't seem to be growing quite as fast/tall as the book
says that it
will in hot climates - I think that it might get too much shade. It is very
healthy looking though and even the June Bugs aren't bothering it. Golden
Celebration is doing well disease wise but does seem to attract all of the
June bugs.
