.The other species Koelreuteria paniculata is hardy though.  Dirr states
that bipinnata is not as hardy only zone 7 with damage.  The paniculata made
it through the freeze of 85 that got down to -24 degrees F.  It was very
cold for a long period of time here in Tennessee that year.
If you do not try, you will never know.  A sheltered spot would be good.
