Your're probably talking about The Index of Garden Plants by Mark Griffiths.
I used to use that as my canonical source for botanical nomenclature, but 
Graham Rice turned me on to the yearly edition of the RHS Plant Finder.
Every year I order it from amazon.co.uk:

It's nothing more than a list of plant names and the nurseries that carry 
them, but the naming is all I really care about anyhow.  :)  And it's *very*
up-to-date.
