Hello, I'm Peter Linder in Sweden.
I think it would be difficult to make something weeping against it's nature.
But, when taking about trimming time of year I'd like to say that late
summer is the ultimate time for Acer spp. At this time of year the cambium
and defense-system of the tree is active and could react quickly to the
injuries you make while pruning. We must remember that al trimming is
wounding of the tree.....
But a tree can stand quite a lot of trimming if it's done on moderate size
branches...
