Hope for Wisteriaphiles

A common question often asked in woody plant forums is how to coax a
wisteria into bloom. Despite having actually seen some blooming in 2
gallon pots in the nursery and promises from mail order nurseries
that their plants are vegetatively propagated from "known early
bloomers", both of my Wisteria floribunda are taking their good
natured time to flower.

I root pruned.
I gave yearly doses of high phosphorus fertilizer.
I trimmed all branches back to 3 lateral buds.
I slit the trunk in a spiral fashion (spiral girdling) to stress them.
I took a rubber mallet and whacked the bejesus out of the trunk.
I pleaded.
I cursed.

So now, finally, because or in spite of all of the above, I finally
have been rewarded by one of them.

The other plant (a pink) remains a floral virgin, but it is a younger
plant and perhaps if I heap additional abuse and threats, it, too,
will flower.
