Hi Susan! Yet another one of my favorite plants. Most of the plants
that you'll see in the area are relatively small (around 1 1/2 feet
high), and they usually grow to 3' in height (a lot of people mistakenly
think they'll stay short and plant them in front of perennial borders).
If they're really happy, they can grow to be 5' or greater in height.

The white flowers in spring are a little like a bottle-brush and are a few
inches long, looking pretty cute for a couple of weeks. They usually
smell good too.

In fall, the leaves color from a really bright yellow to orange to
red, usually almost aglow with color. Some of the cultivars like
'Blue Mist' don't color as well in autumn.

It likes acid, loamy soil and can do well in partial shade or full sun.
Flowers and fall color will be better in full sun, but the added moisture
from partial shade benefits the plant a lot here in Central Illinois.
