I was looking at some plants at a local store the other day and saw a
Pterostyrax for sale. There was no specific epithet associated with
the plant, only a genus. I don't know if it's supposed to be corymbosus,
hispida, or some other unknown.
This is a genus that I confess to being almost entirely ignorant of. The
clean foliage and gorgeous flowers are enough to make me try it out,
but I'm really concerned about its hardiness and cultural requirements.
Does anyone have any practical, real-life experience that they can share?
I'm in zone 5b USDA (Urbana -- central Illinois). I could give the plant
full sun to full shade, with the latter in a protected location (and there's
a lot more shade in my yard than sun, too!) I don't think cold hardiness
will be a problem, but I really wonder about cultural requirements. Can
anyone allay my fears? If so, I'll go out and buy one today!
Thanks,
Chris
