Marge, We have this plant in our woods here in southwestern Ohio too. I'm
pretty sure it is a native holly, ilex, but can't tell you the species. The
AHS A-Z Encyclopedia of Garden Plants lists Ilex opaca as American Holly, and
says it can have spine-toothed or entire leaves, but I'm not convinced that
is what this plant is. Ours here are entire leaves as is your photo.
