Is anyone out there growing Disanthus cercidifolius? It sounds like
quite an interesting plant, but I'm curious about its pickiness with
regard to cultural situations.
Supposedly, this species prefers moist, acidic soil high in organic
content under dappled shade. The hardest to provide out here is acidity --
my soil tends to be neutral (although under the pine trees out back
the pH is lower). So the question is: "Will this survive in a neutral
pH, and if not, will it survive in the moderate to dense shade provided
by the pines? Will siting affect its fall color significantly?"
Thanks for any advice,
Chris
