I haven't tried to separate really stuck plastic buckets with this method,
but when two drinking glasses get stuck together you can use this method to
separate them. Put cold water in the top glass and pour hot water over the
bottom one and this causes an expansion on the hot glass and a shrinkage on
the cold one and they will slip apart. It might be worth a try.
