If possible, I would get 3 or 4 of the barrel bins that look like a giant
outdoor roasting grill. They are drums on a roller system which makes it
easy to turn. Then each week you can fill up one, shifting to the next one
the next week. Then different people can sign up to turn them all them
daily. All of them can be turned in under 5 mintues. At the end of 2-3 weeks
after the last fresh stuff is put in there, the compost is ready. At this
point you can put a wheel barrow under it and dump/scrape it into the wheel
barrow. The compost can be split 15 ways-a bucket a person. Or you if you
have 3 bins and 15 plots, a set of 5 gardeners could split the compost once
every three weeks.
There are also bins like this that are divided in half. So if you used
those, you could fill up a bin faster and then complete its composting
sooner without more being added to it. But if you could easily fill up a
whole barrel in a week or less, I would get the whole one rather than the
divided one to simplify the record keeping.
The great thing about this style of bin is that no animals can get into
them. And they make compost fast!
