RE: community gardens and war

   
Why should a potential WW III be a motive to "buy nothing but the necessities?" How about doing this all the time for the love of life on Earth? 

Here is a political message that is related to community gardening:

If people want to stop World War III, I think we need to be willing to engage in a general strike. Weapons contractors, oil companies, and other big business interests who promote and would benefit from war will only respond to economic pain. The best way to inflict economic pain is to engage in a general strike, block the freeways, railways and ports, and nonviolently damage property of large corporations which benefit from war. Short of this, a broader segment of the population can have an impact by engaging in a "shopping strike." Buy nothing but the necessities.

Both of these strategies can be made more effective and acceptable by strengthening and expanding community gardens. As demonstrated by the World War II "Victory Gardens," community gardens are an effective, efficient supplement to the food supply in times of war, scarcity and energy shortage.
