Specifically we received a legislative alert from America's Second
Harvest which reported that "the House version of the 2001 Agricultural
Appropriation bill (HR 4461) contains language that would eliminate the
Community Food Security programs administered by USDA.  Section 732 of
the bill states that no funds 'shall be used to carry out a Community
Food Security program or any similar activities within the United States
Department of Agriculture'."  So..........what is happening here?  Do
you have any background info on this action?

What is happening is that Rep Skeen from NM has a vendetta against
Glickman for reporting that NM has the highest hunger rates in the
country, and is using this against him. He slipped report language into
the appropriations process along these lines. We are hoping that it wont
make it through conference committee, and would encourage you to call up
your senators and representative to express your concern.
