[cg] NYC Auction -STOPPED! Gardens bought by TPL & Bette Midler's Fund

Thank you for you many, many letters, e-mails, prayers, coverage,
attendance at the Standing our Ground Rally, EVERYTHING.
From reliable sources, the Mayor received a letter from Willie Brown,
Mayor of San Francisco along with a 5,000 signature petition, front page
coverage in the Washington Post, and this story was covered by News
organizations from around the world (including Australia, New Zealand,

The 114 gardens were bought for $4.2 million by Singer and actress Bette
Midler, her group "The New York Restoration Project" and "The Trust for
Public Alliance." The deal requires NYC to negotiate with TPL for the
additional city owned gardens as well as other gardens (50) on the
auction block for this fall. 

There are also several lawsuits winding through the courts including one
by NYS Attorney General. I'll let you know what happens.
