Re: Kitten Q

The harness is still a bit big for him. When he was at the vets last week he was up to 4 pounds, 9 ounces. It took him a long time to catch up after his rocky start, but he's finally doing so.

He's been playing Redneck Racer already. I've been trying to discourage it since one of my dogs (fortunately the 15 year old) has a very strong prey drive.

It doesn't seem to discourage Diesel though, any more than the State Patrol slows Atlanta traffic. /=(

I don't know if there's an age requirement. If there's a harness that fits
him, he's probably old enough.

Also, in the house --
Someday, when you least expect it, you and the dogs will be minding your
own business relaxing -- and lo -- here comes kitten barrelling by
at 100 miles a second.

He may pause on tippy-tippy-tippy toes, look around with wide eyes, pounce
on an invisible mouse, then ricochet back in the other direction at 100 miles
a second. He may continue to do this for up to 15 minutes.

Do not be alarmed.

This is perfectly normal feline behavior. Some of us call it 'Crazy
Kitty Mode'.

How old does a kitten need to be before trying a harness? Diesel goes on the
screened porch, and has a shelf by a window from which to watch birds, but I
think he'd enjoy it more outside, especially since he was an outdoor kitty
before he was abotu 8 weeks old.

I think sometimes of just letting him out the door with the dogs, but after
doing a lot of reading it sounds like it might not be healthy for him or the
bird population. We have about two-thirds of an acre that's fenced, but he
could be over it in a heartbeat.
