Wonder if it is anything like my husband's great aunt's recipe for Chow
Chow...absolutely wonderful addition to beans and black eyes...don't taste
the same without it. She was from West TN.
Great Aunt Leni's Chow Chow
1/2 put green hot peppers
1 gallon of chopped cabbage (I have also used summer squash)
1/2 gallon green tomatoes
1 quart onions
4 tbs mustard seed
1 tbs cinnamon
1 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon celery seed
1 teaspoon turmeric
2 lbs sugar
3 quarts vinegar.
Cover the vegetables with vinegar and sugar. Cook until tender. Makes
about 14 pints.
