me, neither, david. never needed [operative word] a doobie.
bluegrass festivals with doobies and other amenities, however, were the best.
david grisman; jerry garcia; tony rice; charlie waller; peter rowan [remember "the free mexican air force"?]. i've got tapes of hundreds of them--mostly mandolin players, like grisman and john duffy. some of ricky skaggs cuts are the best bluegrass ever. i went to see ricky a dozen or so times and came to the conclusion that ricky excels on all bluegrass instruments--mandolin, banjo, guitar.
i remember a bluegrass festival in telluride, colorado, when we could not bring coolers into the stage area because the local cops [who are always, in my opinion, examples of life's true failures] had decided that bluegrass fans drank beer and got rowdy. well, as far as i know, no one tried to take beer into the festival.
but we did take grass. and it was one of the most unrowdy events that telluride has ever had.
oh, yeah. during this period of time, telluride airport was one of the key destinations for plane loads of cocaine. the beer-sniffing cops never caught on [or were on the take].
